T he Land of Lincoln Horseshoers
Association incorporated in 1987 and was immediately accepted as an American Farrier's Association member chapter. Our goal is to improve farrier education—not just for farriers, but for all in the equine community, especially the horses.
To that end, the LLHA hosts a minimum of three educational clinics each year, covering a wide range of topics. Recent clinics have included a variety of topics: shoe making, shoe modifications and forging skills, specialized shoeing practices, detailed anatomy, and new research on age-old problems such as laminitis/founder and navicular syndrome.
The LLHA recognizes farrier certification as a great opportunity for professional development. We host an American Farrier's Association (AFA) certification each September and occasionally coordinate a second certification during the course of the year. This year marks our 17th consecutive year hosting AFA certifications, one of the longest streaks in the country.
Injury is among the biggest concerns for farriers, operating a sole-proprietor business. With that in mind, the LLHA maintains an Injured Farrier's Fund, designed to provide financial assistance for members who are hurt and unable to work.
The LLHA promotes strong farrier / veterinarian relationships and we're proud to include a number of equine veterinarians among our members. The relationships formed within our association foster a team approach, beneficial to farriers, vets, horse owners, and—especially—horses.
As with any organization, our strength is our membership, and the best part of the LLHA is the people. Our association provides opportunities for horseshoers to talk shop with others in the same field. Join us to share ideas about shoeing, tools, business, new products, new research, and issues involving the horse world in general.
